Housecall Pro Free Trial:
14 Days to Find Out if It's Right for Your Business

I've run Housecall Pro in real HVAC and plumbing operations. It's the best software on the market for businesses built around service agreements and maintenance contracts — but it's not right for everyone. This guide tells you exactly what to test so you don't waste two weeks on the wrong software.

Is Housecall Pro the right fit?

Housecall Pro is excellent — for the right operation. Know before you trial.

Start the trial if…

  • HVAC, plumbing and electrical businesses running maintenance agreements
  • Companies doing $500K–$5M in annual revenue with 5–30 techs
  • Teams that need a flat-rate pricebook built into the system
  • Businesses wanting email marketing and automated review campaigns
  • Operations moving up from Jobber that need more marketing power

Consider alternatives if…

  • Solo operators or teams under 3 techs (Jobber is cheaper and simpler)
  • Operations needing enterprise dispatch for 20+ crews (use ServiceTitan)
  • Businesses without a strong service agreement model (you won't use HCP's best features)
  • Anyone needing deep API access or custom integrations

Smaller team? See Jobber free trial instead.

What to test in your 14 days

Housecall Pro has a lot of features. Focus on the ones that will actually drive your decision.

1
Set up a service agreement / maintenance membership — this is HCP's core strengthPriority
2
Build a flat-rate pricebook entry and send a quote from mobilePriority
3
Test the online booking widget — embed it on a test pagePriority
4
Send an automated follow-up and review request after a jobPriority
5
Check the dispatch board with 3+ jobs scheduled in one day
6
Send an email marketing campaign to your customer list
7
Try Wisetack financing — offer a customer 0% payment plan
8
Test the mobile app on Android and iOS — compare to your current tool

Bernard's tip: the membership module is the real test

Housecall Pro's biggest competitive advantage is its service agreement management. In week one, take your top 3 maintenance contract customers and set them up completely in HCP — recurring visits, auto-scheduling, renewal reminders. If that workflow feels natural and saves your dispatcher time, you have your answer. If you're not running service agreements yet, you're not using HCP's best features — consider Jobber at a lower price point.

HCP has raised prices three times since 2021. The "Basic" plan is functionally unusable for a real operation.

Bernard's verdict

Housecall Pro is the software I recommend to any HVAC or plumbing operation where service agreements are a meaningful chunk of revenue. The membership management module is the best I've seen at this price range — you can track contracts, auto-schedule maintenance visits and send renewal reminders without a single spreadsheet. The email marketing and automated review requests are also genuinely ahead of Jobber. The honest warning: the "Basic" plan they advertise at $65/month is a trap — you need at least Essentials at $169/month to get a working dispatch board. Budget accordingly. And if you're a solo operator or a 2-person team, Jobber gives you 80% of HCP's features at half the price.

4.5/5 — Best for service agreement-heavy operations

Frequently asked questions

Is the Housecall Pro free trial really free?
Yes — 14 days, no credit card required. Full access to Essentials features. After 14 days you choose a plan or stop. No automatic charge.
How much does Housecall Pro cost after the trial?
Realistically $169/month (Essentials) to run a proper operation — the Basic plan at $65/month is missing dispatch and most key features. Annual billing saves ~15–20%.
What is Housecall Pro best for?
HVAC, plumbing and electrical businesses with 5–30 techs running maintenance agreements. Its membership module, flat-rate pricebook and built-in email marketing are best-in-class at this price range.
Housecall Pro vs Jobber — which should I pick?
Service agreements are a major revenue stream → Housecall Pro. Quick setup, lowest cost, smallest team → Jobber at $49/month. Not sure → try both free trials back to back, it takes 30 minutes to see the difference.
Does Housecall Pro have a free plan?
No. The 14-day free trial is the only free option. After that, the cheapest plan is $65/month — but as noted, you'll need Essentials at $169/month for a functional operation.
